Hi, I’m Shannon.

I’m a Sylvan Lake resident, wife and mom, and an appointed Notary Public for the Province of Alberta.

I’m originally from South Africa, and when my family began our immigration journey to Canada, I personally took on the responsibility of managing our applications and the extensive documentation that came with them.

That experience was the beginning of a professional path into the immigration sector, where I went on to work for several years as a legal assistant, supporting detailed and often time-sensitive client files. The work demanded accuracy, discretion and a strong understanding of documentation and procedural requirements — experience that now forms an important part of the professional standard I bring to Sylvan Lake Notary.

Sylvan Lake is home for us now. Outside of work, most of my time is spent with my husband and kids, and on a warm evening there’s a good chance you’ll find us walking along the lake.

Notary Public or Commissioner for Oaths?

The roles overlap, but they are not the same. Your document instructions will usually tell you which one is required.

Commissioner for Oaths

Oaths, affidavits and declarations

  • A Commissioner for Oaths may administer oaths and take and receive affidavits, affirmations or declarations in and for Alberta.
  • A Commissioner for Oaths cannot act as a Notary Public.

Notary Public

Broader notarial authority

  • A Notary Public may perform the same oath, affidavit, affirmation and declaration services.
  • A Notary Public may also certify and attest true copies, and witness or certify and attest the execution of documents.
A Notary Public can act as a Commissioner for Oaths. If you’re not sure which one you need, send me the document details before booking. Official Alberta information: Notaries Public · Commissioners for Oaths
